My husband really liked this for his birthday. It is very pretty! The closures should be larger and a little heavier to keep case close, I’m afraid they will break. Other than this, it is a very beautiful set and the craving is great, the pieces seem weighted. It’s a great deal for the price!

I found this set to be excellent in all areas. The pieces are large and weighted at the bottom. The woodwork for the price I believe is very good. this is not a £250.00 hand carved chess set. It is a very nice set for the price, that is what you need to understand. My wife and I like it very much and we have had very nice comments concerning it. We are beginners and wanted a set that was better than a £25.00 plastic set but did not want to spend a lot of money on a wooden set, this was perfect for our needs. You can’t beat the price for what you are getting, were very happy with it.

I was really worried– I wanted to buy my son a decent-looking chess set that wouldn’t cost a lot– I got this and then waited nervously for it to show up– When it got here today (lightening fast), I ran upstairs and opened it to check it out– this is beautiful. It sits dead flat on the table, all the pieces were intact and in good shape.

This is a very nice chess set that is made almost completely with wood. The pieces are very light due to use of soft woods in the making (while I would have preferred heavier pieces, they would most likely cost more if hardwood was used). The finish quality is not the best as can be seen from a close up picture of the king. I think with some finishing of your own with an sharp carving knife and some sandpaper can bring this set to a five star level. Also, comes with only one closing clasp instead of two as pictured in sales photo. While not perfect, the price and honest materials used make it a four star item for me. Made in Poland.

The quality of this set is beyond the price paid. Gave it to my cousin for Christmas, even though we weren’t sure how a 12-year-old boy who spends lots of time playing chess on the computer would like it. He was very excited and challenged everybody, who is visiting for the holidays, to play a game with him. He even made a new friend at school who also likes spending time playing on this “real chessboard” rather than on the computer.
