The finish is nice it looks like natural wood that has been sealed and then coated with a nice van dyke brown wiping glaze and then cleated for a very nice finish. The pieces are my favorite part, well the queen mainly.

I love this chess set the best one I’ve owned. The detail work around the base of the board is very nice and elegant. The border is nicely done listing the ranks and files in proper order unlike some other boards I have seen.
